Woodstock residents watched in horror as thugs stabbed and then set a man alight in the main road in broad daylight on Wednesday.
Soon after the violent attack in Victoria Road, videos of the suspected gangster lying on the road with his clothes burnt off and skin peeling started to circulate on WhatsApp groups.
Police confirmed the victim, only known as Sulaiman, died in hospital hours later.
According to Daily Voice sources, the victim was doused with petrol and set on fire in a gang retaliation attack.
A resident told the Daily Voice: “He was running from the Caltex side to the Wynberg direction. The suspects were in a white double cab.
“When the victim was still on the road before the ambulance came, he managed to name the people who did that to him.”
The man says Sulaiman was stabbed seven times in the back and sides before he was set alight.
“When the paramedics lifted him up, there was a lot of blood. He was still talking when he went to the hospital but he was in excruciating pain.
“(Yesterday) we heard that he died and that his janaazah will be today.”
The resident alleged the incident was a retaliation for the shooting that took place earlier that morning.
“A man died in Cornwall Street and he was shot by the Fancy Boys,” he explains.
“And so the stabbing incident happened hours later in retaliation for that and Sulaiman was a Fancy Boy.
“This has left residents shaken and concerned because we don’t know when the gangsters will strike again. We are all scared because there is this war going on.”
Police spokeperson Wesley Twigg says: “Woodstock Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident where a 33-year-old male was stabbed and set alight in Victoria Road Woodstock on Wednesday night at about 7.35pm.
“According to reports, the victim was walking in the road when he was attacked by three unknown suspects who fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
“The victim was taken to a medical facility for medical treatment, he later died in hospital due to injuries sustained.
