One of the alleged leaders of the Junky Funky Kidz gang is set to appear on murder charges as the probe into a gang hit at Wynberg Magistrates Court continues.

The man who sources claim is a "captain" for the gang in Steenberg is set to join gang girlfriend Shireen Matthews in the same court building this week for the murder of Dingalomoyo Chintso, 49.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that Western Cape serious violent crimes detectives have arrested yet another suspect over the weekend on charges of murder.

Potelwa reports: ‘The 24-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

"The deceased person who had links in the taxi industry was shot and killed on the court premises. In a breakthrough, a 35-year-old woman who was arrested as part of the same investigation appeared in court on Monday, 13 April 2025.

Potelwa adds: "[Matthews] is expected back in court on Wednesday, 23 April 2025. With the investigation unfolding, the team has been questioning a number of individuals and steady progress is being made in efforts to apprehend all those responsible for the murder. It is expected that further arrests will be made in due course."

At the time of the incident an eyewitness reported that a lone gunman wearing a maroon t-shirt and a black beanie approached Chintso and took a firearm out of his sling bag and fired four shots at his head.

Panic spread as bang mense feared the gunman was still roaming the court corridors as sources revealed that the victim was a person of interest in the murder of slain Junky Funky Kidz gang boss Ashley "Essie" Phillips who was shot outside Brackenfell Police Station earlier this year.
