KAAPSE cops have busted suspects in connection with two separate hijacking incidents.
In the first incident, police detained to three men with an unlicensed firearm.
They were vasgevat by the Maitland Flying Squad near Borchards Quarry after a carjacking was reported in Dunoon.
Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie reports: “The vigilance of members attached to the Maitland Flying Squad resulted in the arrest of three suspects aged between 23 and 32 for the possession of a hijacked vehicle and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
"On Wednesday, 30 April 2025, the members acted rapidly in pursuit of information that a hijacked vehicle, a Suzuki sedan which was taken in Du Noon, Milnerton earlier, was spotted traveling on the N2 freeway.
“The members pulled over the vehicle near Borchards Quarry where they ensued with a search. They discovered a 7.65 pistol inside the vehicle which was later linked to a firearm reported as stolen in Bishop Lavis during November 2024.”
They are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court once charged.
Meanwhile in Town Two, Khayelitsha, a man was arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of an imitation firearm and suspected stolen property worth R30 000.
Police spokesperson Aneliswa Manyama says: “An adult male that was found at the premises was arrested and detained at Lingelethu SAPS.”
The suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court on the mentioned charges, once charged.
