A homeless man was arrested in Sea Point on Monday morning after he allegedly struck a female parking marshal on the head with a glass bottle, leaving her bleeding heavily.
The brutal attack, which occurred around 8.30am, marks the second violent incident against a woman in the area in just three days.
The Sea Point City Improvement District (CID), which manages local safety operations, confirmed its officers detained the suspect minutes after the victim ran into their offices seeking help.
According to CID chairperson Jacques Weber, the injured woman managed to describe her attacker despite being in severe pain.
Weber added that rapid response by CID officers and technology played a key role in tracking down the suspect.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrest of a 32-year-old male, now in custody on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Twigg reports: "He will appear in court once charged.”
The Monday morning incident follows another disturbing attack in Sea Point just two days earlier, when a woman was stabbed with a pair of scissors on Beach Road on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old male, who was apprehended near the scene by members of Law Enforcement and Metro Police.
He says: “The victim received medical treatment and the incident was reported to Sea Point SAPS."
Police said the man has been linked to a separate drug-related case.
