IN NOG ‘n accident involving a larney sports car, traffic cops arrested the driver of a yellow Porsche yesterday.

Traffic officers were called to a botsing between a Porsche and a minibus taxi on FW de Klerk Boulevard outbound after Marine Drive in the CBD before 8am.

The canary yellow 2016 Porsche Cayman had lelike dents and the paint job was ruined.

When officers took the driver for his breathalyser test, the results reading was more than twice the legal limit.

City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, reports: “Traffic officers attended to a motor vehicle accident between a Porsche and a minibus taxi on FW de Klerk Boulevard outbound after Marine Drive in the CBD.

“Officers arrested the driver of the yellow Porsche for driving under the influence of alcohol with a reading of 0,52 which equates to more than twice the legal limit. The legal limit is 0,24mg/1000ml.”

Smith pointed out that this is the third botsing innie Kaap where a sports car was involved.

In February, a 32-year-old doctor Ncumisa Mdlokolo was killed when she was run over by a driver in a Ferrari on Buitengracht.

Then in March, Nigerian rapper 3GAR Baby crashed a white McLaren 570S coupe at high speed along High Level Road in the Sea Point.

Smith adds: “This is but the latest incident involving luxury sports cars in recent months.

"The fact that the driver was arrested early in the morning and with an alcohol reading of more than double the legal limit makes this offence even more alarming.

“The motor vehicle accident could have had serious consequences with innocent passengers sustaining injuries.

“Our enforcement agencies will not tolerate lawlessness and will continue to arrest suspects who break the law. We all have a responsibility to contribute towards a safer road environment.”
