POLICE have confirmed 30-year-old nurse Londiwe Pretty Mnyandu who disappeared nearly 10 days ago, has been found.

Mnyandu was reported missing after she was last seen by a colleague as they were leaving her workplace in Bellville on Saturday, 31 May.

She was on her way to a man in Samora Machel.

Inquiries with Western Cape Department of Health could not ascertain which facility she worked at or whether she was employed by them.

On Sunday, cops had intensified their search for Mnyandu, putting out a missing person alert to the public, asking for help to locate her.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said at the time: “Information reveals that Londiwe left her place of employment on Saturday with a colleague on her way to Samora Machel to visit a male known to her. She has since not yet returned to her place of employment in Bellville. At the time of her disappearance she was seen wearing a nurse's uniform,”

On Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed the search was off and she had been found on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk reported: “Be advised that mentioned missing person Londiwe Pretty Mnyandu has been found safe and unharmed on Monday, 9 June.

Her disappearance sparked outrage from activists, coming just weeks after the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale who was last seen leaving her home in Athol, Johannesburg.

The postgraduate student at the University of the Witwatersrand, had gone on a date with a man she had recently met.

Ilitha Labantu spokesperson Siyabulela Monakali said that South Africa remains an unsafe place for women and children.

Monakali said: "South Africa currently ranks 7th in the world for kidnappings, with over 16 000 cases reported annually. An estimated 85% of these victims are women and children. These figures reflect a grim reality that South Africa remains a deeply unsafe place for far too many.”
