SASSA grant recipients who have not been paid out yet this month have been told not to panic and visit their nearest office to verify their personal information.

Following a review of beneficiaries flagged for possibly having undeclared income, SASSA announced that it has led to short-term delays in some payments - but no permanent suspensions.

The agency is urging affected beneficiaries to submit specific documents or risk losing access to their social grants.

The statement reads: "Clients who were not paid are requested to visit their nearest Sassa local office. Sassa will determine eligibility of the client upon review to check if the beneficiaries still qualify."

The review comes amid increasing pressure to prevent fraud and ensure that only qualifying South Africans benefit from the social assistance system.

Sassa confirmed that beneficiaries who did not receive their monthly grants must visit their nearest local office immediately.

Non-compliance with the verification process could lead to serious consequences according to the agency.

The agency warned: "Beneficiaries who fail to comply with this process risk having their grants suspended. Continued non-compliance may lead to the permanent lapsing of their grants."

Sassa has outlined a list of required documents, which includes:

  • A certified copy of the ID document or smart ID card (with the original).
  • Bank statements for the past three months for all active accounts.
  • Proof of discharge from the last employer or a sworn affidavit if unavailable.
  • Certified birth certificates of children linked to the grant, plus affidavits confirming the whereabouts of biological parents.
  • Documentation of property ownership, rates and taxes for unoccupied property.
  • Any paperwork reflecting additional income.
