THE National Coloured Congress (NCC) has defended leader Fadiel Adams handling of state secrets.
Adams was implicated in the testimony of General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi at the ongoing Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for illegally accessing classified police documents.
According to Mkhwanazi, Adams used the information to question now-suspended Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu over internal police vetting procedures.
But the NCC says that Adams was acting in the public interest.
They said in a statement: “The National Coloured Congress (NCC) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to accountability, ethical governance, and fearless opposition to corruption—wherever it may be found.
“In light of recent media coverage and public commentary following the testimony of General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, we wish to clarify and unequivocally defend the actions of our leader and Member of Parliament, Mr. Fadiel Adams, who released information relating to alleged corruption within the SAPS Crime Intelligence Division.
“The release of this information was not an act of malice, nor was it intended to undermine national security or due process.
“It was, instead, a principled and courageous decision made in the public interest - a decision rooted in Mr. Adams’ longstanding reputation as a corruption fighter and whistle-blower.
“The information in question, though classified, pertains to serious and credible allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of intelligence resources, and political interference within SAPS Crime Intelligence.
“These allegations - now partially corroborated by sworn testimony at the Madlanga Commission - demand urgent public scrutiny and institutional response.
“Secrecy must never be used as a shield to protect wrongdoing. As a Member of Parliament, Mr. Adams has a constitutional duty to uphold the rule of law, safeguard public funds, and act decisively when institutions designed to protect citizens are compromised from within.”
