The search continues for 18-year-old Nafees Isaacs of Delft who was washed off the rocks at Bakoven beach on Saturday while visiting the location with friends and family.

Isaacs, from N2 Gateway in Delft, had slipped and fallen while going for a pee, according to his father, Sulaiman Isaacs.

By yesterday afternoon, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) confirmed there were no signs of Isaacs as yet and that the search was still under way.

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said: “Police divers are continuing in ongoing search efforts.”

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said more teams were sent to the location where Isaacs is believed to have gone missing.

He confirmed: “Kindly be advised the search for the missing 18-year-old male who went missing on the sea in Camps Bay on Saturday continues. The SAPS divers were dispatched to the area this morning to continue searching."

Earlier, Sulaiman told Daily Voice that his 21-year-old daughter had been with Isaacs when he called for help and that by the time she had reached him, the water was too dark and murky.

He described how the group of friends had left early on Saturday morning to play games, before going for a late-night stop at the beach when tragedy struck.

According to the NSRI, the teen had been with a group of young adults who had been on the rocks, at Bakoven, when he went missing at sea.

“Shoreline patrols and investigations along rocks and in the area around Bakoven revealed no signs of the teenager where it became increasingly evident that he may have slipped off rocks into the water during the incoming high tide,” the NSRI explained.

Police have since opened an investigation while the search efforts are ongoing.

“Thoughts, care and compassion are with family and friends of the missing teenager in this difficult time,” the NSRI stated.
