MITCHELLS Plain dad of five Diego Soldaat was killed in a case of mistaken identity, according to his sister.
The 35-year-old was buying lekkers and chocolates for his kids on Sunday, 12 October, at the BP garage on the corner of Lavender and Eisleben Road in Lentegeur when he was stabbed to death.
The Daily Voice published the article ‘Dad of 5 stabbed to death’, which police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident and that Lentegeur cops are investigating a case of murder.
According to sister Louise, Diego left his mother’s house on Sunday to walk to an ATM and never returned.
She explained: “A few shots were fired nearby, and someone came to the house saying he had been shot. In fact, he was lying on the ground at the garage when it happened.
“The shots weren’t aimed at him, but when he ran, a car with people inside mistakenly thought he had fired. He was then stabbed to death.”
She added that Diego was known for his warmth and friendliness, saying: “He was always happy, always smiling, joking, and moving around.
“He loved people and could walk into any house and make everyone feel welcome. Everyone who knew him has only good things to say.
“He loved music and church, as his parents are leaders in the faith fraternity.
