PRESIDENT Cyri Ramaphosa has wysed Kaapse mense to piemp the gangsters in their communities if they want to end the violence.
Ramaphosa was addressing Parliament in Cape Town during a Q&A session on Thursday.
Questions were put to him by various MPs, including Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, about how he plans to tackle the gun and gang violence in the Mother City.
With a policing crisis on his hands, the president said mense must do their part to fight crime.
He said: “We want gang violence to be fought throughout the country, not only Gauten, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, or the Western Cape.
“We are one unitary state and we have a lot to learn from each other.
“So if there are innovative ways to be able to fight criminality, yes, we want then to be brought to the fore.
“Yes, we want the utilisation of various instruments that will lead to the lowering of acts of criminality.
“I just said earlier, that we also want to use technology. Many other countries have succeeded in bringing down levels of criminality by using modern methods.
“There would be artificial intelligence, digital intelligence and of course the continued presence of boots on the street.
“But more importantly, and saw this clearly demonstrated by one of the residents in Gauteng, a lady who was saying: We as community members must work together.
“And she was saying the people who are committing crimes are known to us. That’s what she said.
“I have often said that but I was rather glad when she said so. And she was one of those who were either a victim of crime or a neighbour of a victim .
“And she made a plea to community members, that if we all work together we will be abe to snuff out and the criminals and get them out of our communities.”
