THE national Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has assured South Africans that the suspect responsible for the murder of Warrick “DJ Warras” will be agter tralies before today (Monday).

Masemola was speaking during an oversight visit to Safer Festive Season operations in Pretoria on Friday afternoon.

“With regards to the DJ Warras case, a suspect has been identified, and he will be arrested - I am sure before Monday,” Masemola said.

“He is a known suspect. If not today, then over the weekend, that suspect will be arrested.”

Masemola’s remarks came as a memorial service for DJ Warras was held at The Galleria in Marlboro, Sandton.

Family members, friends, industry colleagues and senior officials attended to pay tribute to the late radio and television personality.

DJ Warras was shot dead on December 16 as he was leaving the Zambezi Building in Johannesburg.

Police said video footage shows a short man with dreadlocks approaching him, opening fire and fleeing the scene.

Masemola said he was not aware of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) conducting parallel investigations into the case.

His comments follow reports that three verdagtes had been taken in for questioning.

However, IOL News previously reported that Gauteng police denied those claims.

The family and friends of  DJ Warras, were all visibly emotional as they paid tribute to the slain star at his memorial in Johannesburg.

Speakers ranged from radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo, Penuel Mlotshwa and his fellow podcast co-host DJ PH. They all shared snaakse memories of their experiences with the personality.

His eldest son, Ethan, was the last speaker and bravely battled trane as he described his father.

Ethan described their father as a loving, supportive, and wise individual who was always present for his family. He shared how he was a constant source of guidance and provided for his children.

“My father was the life of the party and the brightest light in every room.

“When we needed someone, he was there,” a hartseer Ethan shared as he recalled his father.

Ethan, with his two younger brothers standing by his side, closed his tribute by calling his father his hero.

“My father was my hero. He's the person I look up to. He's my inspiration. He was my rock and my foundation.”

Nicole, DJ Warras's sister, bravely expressed anger and grief over his premature death, highlighting his commitment to justice, compassion, and speaking truth to power.

“I'm kwaad. I'm so angry because why was he taken away from us too early? And that is not where his voice should have ended. This is where it should have been loudest.”

Meanwhile, the City of Johannesburg’s Alex Mandlazi previously confirmed that DJ Warras was not the owner of the Zambezi Building, nor was he acting on behalf of the city at the time of his shooting.

The building reportedly houses about 250 occupants, with around half not paying rent.
