SHOOTING: Police probe murder scene in Blue Downs

KLEINVLEI police are investigating the murder of a man in Blue Downs in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The 47-year-old victim had been driving home along Chumani Street when he was ambushed and shot multiple times. 

According to reports, the man got out his car as he tried to escape from suspects in a Hyundai i10, but they gunned him down in the street.   

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said: “This office confirms that on January 11 at about 4am, Kleinvlei police attended a complaint of a shooting at Chumani Street, Bella Donna estate, Blue Downs. 

“They found the body of a 47-year-old man on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. According to reports, the deceased was driving home when suspects in a Hyundai i10 started shooting at him.

“He tried fleeing and eventually got out of the vehicle, and they shot him multiple times. The motive for the attack is undetermined at this point; Kleinvlei Detectives are investigating a case of murder.”

In a separate incident on Saturday, Steenberg police were called to a scene where two men were shot and killed and a third wounded on Saturday. 

Gwala explained: “Steenberg police registered two counts of murder and an attempted murder case on Saturday, January 10. 

“Police received information about a shooting incident in Flute Street, and upon arrival, they found a body in an open field and another one in front of a yard. Both males, aged 21 and 34, sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“The third victim was shot in his chest and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the shooting is a subject of police investigation.”
