POLICE busted three suspected drug merts following raids in Kleinvlei and Eerste River.
According to the South African Police Service, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an intelligence-driven operation on Wednesday evening.
The information led them to identified premises and confiscated two 9mm pistols with ammunition and 100 mandrax tablets which were found at different addresses.
They arrested three suspects aged 39, 37 and 21 for the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said, once charged, the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court.
He added that in an unrelated matter, cops searched a premises in 11th Avenue, Bokmakierie, Athlone, when they found 600 mandrax tablets in a cupboard.
They arrested a 39-year-old male for the possession of mandrax tablets.
Meanwhile, in Masisphumelele, officers of the Ocean View Crime Prevention Unit and Crime Intelligence took down more skelms in the possession of prohibited firearms.
During the search of the premises the members found two 9mm pistols without serial numbers in possession of the suspects. They were arrested for the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
In Sobukwe Road, Masiphumelele, the members searched a premises and arrested an adult male when he was found in possession of a revolver without a serial number with ammunition. He faces charges for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Twigg said the men would appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court, once they have been charged.
