Police have confirmed they are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a wilde brawl inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Stellenbosch during the early hours of Saturday morning - but no criminal case has been registered.

The 44-second clip opens with two young men exchanging blows while two others are seen wrestling on the floor.

A separate altercation then breaks out between another pair, with one tackling the other to the ground.

Another ou appears in the bots and attempts to stomp on the head of a person lying on the floor before throwing several more punches. More people join the fracas before the video cuts out.

The footage, which has been widely shared online, appears to show a physical confrontation inside the fast-food outlet. Posts accompanying the video claim the incident involved individuals believed to be students from Stellenbosch University.

It is alleged that the incident escalated after a group of intoxicated patrons harassed staff members.

The behaviour described includes whistling at employees, tugging at their caps and making remarks perceived as racially offensive.

Tensions reportedly mounted before a physical altercation broke out between those involved.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said SAPS was aware of the footage.

He said: “SAPS is aware of the video footage that is circulating on social media, however no criminal case was registered.

It remains unclear whether any formal complaint has since been lodged.
