Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of defence lawyer, David Mbazwana, who was known to have defended several people with alleged underworld connections.
Mbazwana, 38, was shot multiple times in broad daylight by unknown suspects in front of his sister at the Eiland informal settlement in Makhaza on Sunday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the suspects were nabbed Thursday.
“Police have launched a manhunt and made a breakthrough when they arrested the three suspects and recovered a CZ 75 firearm with serial number removed which was loaded with 12 rounds.
“Police also seized 17 rounds of different calibres, seven packets of tik and 36 mandrax tablets,” Van Wyk says.
“The three suspects, aged 24, 30, 35, are due to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once charged.
“Two of them are facing charges of illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and drugs while the other is facing a charge of possession of ammunition and drugs.”
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula, applauded his members on their swift action for this breakthrough.
