A non-profit organisation from Mitchells Plain
decided to brighten up the first day of school for 40 learners at
Eastville Primary.
The Darul Saaligheen Centre, situated in Eastridge, is a safe space for children after school and during the holidays.
The centre also offers drug and family counselling to members of the community.
Director of the centre, Moulana Goosain Arend, says they were greeted with excited smiles at the school.
“We would like to thank everyone who contributed towards the stationery drive.
“The reason we’re doing this is because it is our main aim and objective to give back to our community,” Moulana Arend says.

The children each received a ream of paper, flip files, crayons, scissors, plastic for book covering, a ruler, pencils, pencil crayons, glue, pens, books, sharpeners and a colouring book.
A very happy principal, Graham Stark, says he is extremely grateful that his pupils were chosen as recipients.
“I am very happy they chose our school. Our school is situated in an area with a high rate of unemployment and that shows in our learners,” says the palie.
“We really do appreciate this. Our learners come from impoverished homes and as a no fees school, we try and give the learners all they may need and we cannot really manage to give everything.
“Someone said, ‘it’s just something small’, but it’s those small things that make the biggest
differences,” Stark adds.
The centre also donated to a further 120 children in the area.
