Police are hunting five skelms who robbed a liquor store in Kraaifontein on Thursday evening just before closing time.
The robbery took place at Tops in the Bloch Centre at Belmont Park just before 6pm.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut says: (On Thursday night) at around 6pm, five unknown suspects perpetrated a robbery at a liquor store situated in Belmont Park, Voortrekker Road, Kraaifontein.
“The suspects fled with cash, liquor and cellular telephones and are yet to be arrested. The circumstances are being investigated.”
A shopper says the skelms scoped out the centre shortly before the robbery.
“People here said they noticed earlier that four men were checking out shops,” the witness says.
“The robbery took place just before closing time, at 6pm.
“As the woman manager wanted to close, they asked to enter the store at the last minute.
“Once inside, they took their own time looking for wine for the long weekend.”
The shopper says as the last customers left, the men suddenly attacked the cashiers and while holding them at gunpoint, emptied the tills.
“They also stole someone’s cellphone and the liquor they had bought.
“They walked out of the store like normal customers and didn’t care about the cameras.”
