Residents of Bloubergstrand got the skrik of their lives after skeletal remains washed ashore on Tuesday afternoon.
Police are investigating and trying to confirm the identity of the remains which were found at Kleinbaai Beach.
The skeleton’s torso was still intact and had one leg, and a foot still covered in flesh.
The discovery bears eerie similarities to a skeleton found with the flesh off, but its feet still intact at Lagoon Beach in Milnerton in October last year.
Residents gasped as officials placed the remains on the pavement and cordoned off the scene.
DECOMPOSED: Skeleton with flesh on one foot
One community member posted on Facebook that remains of a head and spine were also found in the Blouberg area on Sunday.
“The head and section of the spine were removed from the water in front of On the Rocks in Blouberg on Sunday, which we saw,” the resident wrote.
PROBE: Police to investigate grim find
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut, could not confirm Sunday’s incident, only the remains found on Tuesday.
“This office can confirm that a decomposed body was found on the beach at Bloubergstrand on Tuesday. The victim is unknown at this stage,” he said.
“A death inquest case docket has been registered and the circumstances are being investigated.”
