Police are investigating the discovery of a 30-year-old man’s body near the railway bridge in Heideveld.
Residents say that the area is often used as a throughway from the train station and surrounding areas, while the field is situated next to Heideveld High on Waterberg Road.
A resident said: “I walk there a lot but I do not know anybody that catches on nonsense there. No matter what time there is always somebody there but no gangsters or stuff like that. That bra was ma just unlucky.”
A 35-year-old man approached the Daily Voice to say that shots were fired.
“We heard shots coming from the field and we were shocked because stuff like that does not happen here.
“I joined a few guys to go look and we saw the body laying on the ground, he must have been robbed while walking there.”
SAPS’ Captain FC van Wyk said the discovery of the body was reported by a passer-by who found it at about 10.30am yesterday, while the detective on the scene told the Daily Voice that it cannot be confirmed if the victim was shot.
“The body of an unidentified male was found along the railway line in Heideveld by a passer-by. The unidentified male seemed to have sustained fatal head injuries.
“The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated as part of a murder case while no arrests have been made,” said Van Wyk.
