A woman who apparently couldn’t get a loan at a bank stripped her moer, stripped off her clothes and trashed the Capitec Strand branch on Wednesday.
In a video of the bizarre incident that has gone viral, the naked woman can be seen screaming and wrecking computers among other items as frightened employees and customers scatter.
A customer who was inside Capitec bank in Fagan Street, Strand, says the incident occurred around 9am.
“There were a lot of pensioners in the bank because it’s SASSA time. Everyone was so skaam when this lady took off her clothing and started going on.
“One coloured auntie even closed her husband’s eyes herself oor die gedoente.
“Apparently she wanted to make a loan but she looked to be drunk. And when she was told she couldn’t get a loan, she threw a tantrum.
“Everyone was shocked when she ripped off her clothes and started swearing and breaking things. The police came and took her away.”
In a statement to the Daily Voice, Capitec said it was baffled by the incident: “We at Capitec are as perplexed by this matter which happened at the Strand branch as everyone else and we are trying to get to the bottom of this.”
The bank could not provide further information as to why the woman was in the bank or why she reacted this way.
In the video, the woman is heard screaming as she stands completely naked next to a male consultant.
She then grabs something from his desk and smashes it on the floor before doing the same to his desktop computer.
She then moves to another desk and does the same, all the while screaming and swearing.
Shocked staff and other customers are seen quickly exiting the bank.
A crowd gathered outside gasp as the woman continues to make her way through the bank, smashing things on the floor as people scream “Stop it!”
A woman believed to be one of the staff is then heard asking “Where is the security?” and moments later a man in a reflector jacket, believed to be a security guard, enters the bank.
With both hands on the woman’s arm, the guard escorts her out of the bank.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says: “A malicious damage to property case was opened for investigation at Strand SAPS. A 41-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court once charged.”
*Update
Capitec said it was no closer to finding out why the women had taken off her clothes and ran amok in their Fagan Street branch.
The bank confirmed that she does have a Capitec savings account but not a line of credit.
This after it was rumoured that the unknown woman had become angry after she was refused a loan.
The bank said: “Capitec has no further information about the reason she behaved this way, and unfortunately are unable to give more insight into her behaviour as her words were inaudible. We do know that she behaved in a similar manner in adjacent shops (restaurant). We can also confirm that while she has a savings account with us, she does not have any line of credit with the bank.”
