Alleged slasher, Corrine Jackson, has been arrested for assault while still on trial for her ex-girlfriend’s murder.
On 30 December, Jackson’s fiancée Erin van den Berg’s mother, who can’t be identified, opened a case of common assault at Cape Town Police Station against her.
In February last year, Jackson, 24, revealed details of her engagement to Erin, 21, to the Daily Voice.
Last Thursday’s arrest followed a heated argument between Jackson and Erin on Wednesday, which led cops to the latter’s flat in Vredehoek.
Neighbours, who had alerted police, told the Daily Voice the flat’s door and furniture was covered in Jackson’s blood, after she claimed Erin had cut her with a razor.
But neighbours believe these were self-inflicted wounds and revealed that Jackson had attempted to strangle a kitten which belonged to Erin’s mother.
A witness to the fallout on Wednesday evening said: “I heard a commotion at the home of Erin and her mother. On arrival I saw a bleeding Corrine and blood everywhere around the flat.
“Corrine refused medical attention and so we gave her toilet paper to stop her bleeding. When she wiped off the blood, one could see the slit on her wrist and it looked like a self-inflicted wound.
“I was the first one to make the call to the watch room and SAPS.
“The couple had been drinking that night and I’m not sure what exactly happened in the altercation but there was blood around the flat.
“Erin’s mom has four cats and she was really traumatised by Corrine who allegedly tried to wring the seven-month-old kitten’s neck and throw it on the floor like a ragdoll.
“She apparently stood on it, the kitten appeared lifeless for a few moments.”
In a video leaked to the Daily Voice, cops are seen escorting the two women to a police vehicle and taken to the station.
“Both Corrine and Erin were taken into custody on Wednesday night and they were detained to calm down.”
The witness alleges Corrine returned to the flat on Thursday morning and assaulted Erin’s mother, who then made the case of common assault, for which Jackson was arrested.
Jackson, from Mitchells Plain, is still on trial for the murder of Nadine Esterhuizen, 18.
The matric pupil was found slaughtered at her sister’s home in Colorado Park on 27 September 2017, and Jackson was found locked in the bathroom with two knives in her bloody hands.
Nadine’s body had 21 stab wounds, and her head nearly severed off.
But Jackson, who had been out on R5000 bail, claimed she acted in self-defence in a violent fight fuelled by jealousy.
Police Spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms: “Cape Town Central Detectives arrested a suspect for common assault whilst she was out on bail on a murder charge.
“On 31 December 2021 at about 10am, Cape Town Central detectives reacted swiftly to arrest a 24-year-old female for common assault after she allegedly assaulted the mother of her partner.
“The complainant reported that she was assaulted at her daughter’s flat in Vredehoek, Cape Town.
“The suspect was detained at Cape Town Central SAPS and is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court soon.”
