These were the words of an obviously irritated presiding judge Chantal Fortuin in the Cameron Wilson trial in the Western Cape High Court on Monday, where closing arguments were supposed to take place.
Wilson, 20, from Heinz Park, who was dubbed a serial killer and psychopath by an expert witness last week, was convicted in June on 13 of his initial 15 charges.
One of his victims are 18-year-old Lekita Moore from Valhalla Park, whom he killed in September last year.
An angry Fortuin had harsh words for both the State and defence, Advocate Mohamed Sibda. The latter for not being in court, and the former for handing in papers late.
“This court had ordered heads on Friday already and I have only received one, yours, today,” Fortuin said addressing State prosecutor Carine Teunissen.
She continued: “Mr Wilson has a right to the completion of this trial. The victims and their families have the right to closure. When this court orders, counsel should do it.
“I will sentence on Thursday. Counsel will argue tomorrow [today] and come what may, we will complete this matter on Thursday,” the judge stated.
But Wilson’s lawyer, Sibda, said it was never his intention to fall ill.
“It was never my intention to disrespect the court. I am struck down with the flu. I will definitely be in court tomorrow [today] as instructed by the court and soldier on,” Sibda says.
Wilson sat in the dock with a frown on his face, looking angry that his lawyer was not present.
The trial has been dragging on since February this year.
