Ned Doman High School learners in Athlone received a generous donation of food parcels from Capitec Bank on Monday.
The initiative is part of the Westen Cape Government’s Mass Participation, Opportunity and Access, Development and Growth (MOD) Programme.
Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC Anroux Marais was present to receive Capitec’s donation.
At the handover ceremony, Marais said the Coronavirus pandemic is causing chaos in poor communities.
“Not only is there a lack of food in many households, but added feelings of anxiety also now exist.
“As there have been increasing appeals for donations of food, we wholeheartedly thank Capitec for bridging one of the many gaps with their generosity in assisting with the provision of food parcels to those in need,” said Marais.

Capitec’s Head of Corporate Social Investment, Neptal Khoza says that the contribution is part of Capitec’s response to Covid-19.
“If we can provide the food items for a month, that would really give recipients an opportunity to focus on other things and relieve them from economic pressure,” says Khoza.
“We see ourselves as part of the community and that’s why we wanted to get involved and help in whichever way we can.”
