The girlfriend of a slain Steenberg cop has been sent to the mang after appearing in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court yesterday for the murder of the constable.
Nonjongo Tabalaza, 39, appeared alongside her cousin Aphiwe Potwana, 27, and two 17-year-old boys after they were arrested by the Hawks for allegedly stoning Constable Mzuvukile Hlahleni, 26, to death last month.
Colleagues of the cop, who was stationed at Steenberg SAPS, got a skrik last month when they discovered he had died after he failed to report for his shift on 7 June.

At the time, rumours swirled that he was beaten to death by Tabalaza and her family, reports were unconfirmed.
Scene pictures of the murder showed his bashed face and torso covered in blood.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Philani Nkwalase says the four suspects were traced by the Hawks National Priority Violence Crimes after they were linked to the murder and they were arrested on Friday.
A source says Tabalaza’s son was also arrested.

It is not clear how exactly they were linked to the cop’s murder.
Nkwalase says the case of murder against the two juveniles was postponed until 8 July for assessment reports while Tabalaza and Potwana were sent to prison and their case postponed to 13 July for a bail information hearing.
