A couple who survived a shooting two weeks ago has been killed in Eastridge.
The Mitchells Plain pair who had been in a two year relationship were gunned down on Sourfig Street near a shop on Monday night around 7pm.
According to witnesses, two gunmen on foot ambushed the couple, shot them and ran off.
Mom of three Maillene Mays, 35, tried to run home after she was shot but collapsed metres before reaching her relatives.
Her hartseer sister Marisa Mays, 32, tells the Daily Voice: “My brother told me that she heard her son scream for her and then she tried to run home but she collapsed and that is where she died.
“Her boyfriend, who we only know as Marawaan, died close to the shop where they were shot.
“Two weeks ago they were shot but my sister was not hit, only her boyfriend was shot in the shoulder.”
“I don’t know if Marawaan, 38, was a gangster but we think that this shooting could be related to the first one.”
Marisa says her sister was shot minutes after she left home.
“She came home from netball practice and went to Marawaan then 20 minutes later she was shot.
“When she left home, she was waiting for the food to get ready and she thought she would go to her boyfriend for a little while.
“No one knew she would come back home bleeding from gunshot wounds.”
Marisa says Maillene was not involved in gangsterism or crime: “She was a netball player, a shooter for the Juventus Netball Club.
“She leaves behind three young children, the eldest is 13 and youngest is three years old.
“My sister was at the wrong place, she should not have been killed.”
SAPS’ Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the incident and said no arrests have been made yet.
In an unrelated incident, a man who was on his bicycle was shot and injured in Lentegeur, also on Monday.
Cops say the male, aged 22, was attacked at 8.10pm by unknown males who approached him on foot. No arrests have been made.
