Curious mense gathered at a scene where it was thought that a human head was found in a flower box.
Police were called to investigate the “shocking” discovery on Tuesday morning in the upmarket Green Point, De Waterkant, area.
A man at the scene on Cobern Street said there has been an awful stench around where the head was found.
Onlookers had their cameras out shooting pictures and videos.
A police forensic investigator was handed a spade to inspect the head that had brown hair and placed in a plastic bag that was crawling with maggots.
But upon closer inspection, cops concluded it was a dog’s head.
The scene was quickly cleared and people went about their business, dismissing the discovery as “only” a dog’s head.
Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk says: “Police members were called out to a complaint regarding a head that members later discovered the head is of a dog in a plastic bag.”
