Families of the Mitchells Plain newlyweds who died in a fire are appealing for help to bury them on Saturday.
Hugn Lindoor, 34, and his wife Monique Danster, 29, died on 25 May when their Wendy house in Woodlands mysteriously caught fire.
Though their memorial services were held separately by their families this week, the two will have a joint funeral at Oakbury Crescent this weekend.
“They are both my children, I cannot burden Monique’s mom because we are in the same situation being unemployed,” says Hugn’s mom Johanna Adams, 54.
She says Hugn’s policy lapsed after not being paid for two months and since the deceased were only married for two weeks, Monique was not yet included in it.
“The policy company is refusing to give us the R8000 payout. We are trying our best to negotiate but it’s only a few days before the funeral and we do not know what is going to happen.
“We appeal to anyone that can help cover the cost to please contact us.”
Monique’s mom, Helen Majampa, who lives in a Wendy house in Delft, says her life has been turned upside down.
“Nobody would have thought we’d be talking about their funerals now. My daughter worked as a cashier and was looking after me, my youngest daughter and my granddaughter.
“She couldn’t really afford the policy and it is really sad that I can’t give her a decent goodbye,” says the devastated mother.
