The Mother Theresa of the Cape Flats Venetia Orgill is not letting lockdown stop her feeding scheme and is now serving up food all over the city.
Venetia usually feeds the homeless in the CBD every week, but since lockdown has been unable to feed her group.
“I started calling around to ask what is happening to my homeless people,” she says.
“The CCID (Central City Improvement District) in the CBD told me the homeless are longing for me because they are missing my food.
“With the lockdown, most of the homeless went into hiding, scattering to find shelter.
“I then cooked up some food and took it to distribute on Wednesday, from Heathfield to Woodstock under the bridge where we managed to feed 204 people.

“Friday we wanted to feed in Tafelsig, but there was too much conflict among teenage gangs throwing stones and I feared for my car.”
“We then left that area and started again from Wynberg to Salt River.
“On Saturday, we fed in Mitchells Plain where there were loads of hungry children and adults hungry, we fed 120 people.”
Venetia makes two pots of food, one 65 litre and one 50 litre, containing samp and beans and fish breyani.
And she hopes to feed people in different areas.
