Bishop Lavis police are on the hunt for a woman who dumped her baby in a bin at Vanguard Day Hospital on Monday.
According to a source the gruesome discovery was made by workers who went to empty the sanitary pad bins at the hospital who found the foetus in the bin in one of the toilets.
Police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela says the woman, estimated to be between the ages of 20 and 25, visited the hospital in Candlewood Street at about 6.45am.
“At about 6.45am she visited a day hospital located in Candlewood Street, Bonteheuwel complaining of abdominal pains.
“The patient visited a bathroom for some time and left the building afterwards.
“Later that morning, a foetus was found by personnel members inside the trauma bathroom.”
The source says the gender of the foetus is unknown at this stage and it is not clear how far the pregnancy was.
Majikela says Bishop Lavis SAPS have registered a concealment of birth case and seeking help in locating the woman.
“The suspect is unknown at this stage and can be described as between the ages of 20 to 25 years old, short in height with short black hair," Majikela says.
“At the time of the incident, she was wearing beige/brown shorts with long socks and trainers.”
