A gang fight which erupted over a stolen bike has resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man and a child being injured following a shooting in Manenberg over the weekend.
Cops were called to the scene along Duinefontein Road on Friday afternoon after two gang gunmen jumped out of a taxi and opened fire on their alleged rival.
According to a Daily Voice source, the shooting was a culmination of knife fights which had broken out earlier in the week between members of the Clever Kids and Americans gangs, in which one American was killed.
The Americans retaliated by stabbing a Clever Kid who also survived.
The insider explains: "They know the Clever Kids regulate the Century City taxis on Duinefontein Road so the next day two Americans took a taxi from the top of Manenberg to Nyanga Junction and just made it look like they were commuters.
"They got out of the taxi with firearms and started shooting at one of the Clever Kids who was regulating the taxis and he died. As they ran away they shot in the direction of Johanna Court where the grandson of the gang leader was hit he survived."
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident.
He reports: "On 7 March at 5.25pm, a 32-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and a eight-year-old boy was struck by a stray bullet.
"According to reports the male is a taxi regulator and was standing on the corner of Duinefontein road and The Downs when he was approached by unidentified males. Several shots were fired at him as he tried running for safety.
"As the suspects fled the scene they fired several random shots towards the residential flats, an eight-year-old boy was struck in the leg while he sat on the stairway at Johanna Court, Manenberg, by a stray bullet. The motive is believed to be gang related"
Van Wyk says Manenberg detectives interviewed several eyewitnesses which lead to a 24-year-old male been brought in for questioning.
He adds: "A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened for investigation."
