A MANENBERG man was brutally gunned down for refusing to switch sides in the ongoing gang wars terrorising the neighbourhood.

Igshaan Stein, 40, was shot multiple times last Wednesday while standing in Gouritz Road, with sources close to him claiming he had recently been pressured into joining a rival gang.

According to a Daily Voice source, Stein was a member of a gang before being threatened by rivals to join them, only for skollies from a third group to allegedly shoot him.

The insider, who asked not to be named, explained: “As he was walking he didn’t take note of the two gangsters trailing him. They shot him in his ankle, hip and all in his back.

“As he was lying on the ground, I asked God to give him a second chance.

“Hy was geforce en gedreig om te draai”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk previously said that the shooting incident occurred on 28 January at 7.02am.

Van Wyk reported: “On arrival at the scene of the crime, they [SAPS members] found the body of a male lying on his back on the pavement.

“According to reports, the 40-year-old deceased was standing in the road talking to a woman when two unidentified males shot at him.

“He sustained one gunshot wound to the right ankle and two gunshot wounds to the back. A murder case was registered for investigation. The motive for the shooting is a subject of police investigation.”

The Daily Voice previously reported on another incident where another man from Manenberg was forced to switch allegiances.

The 22-year-old male was executed at close range at the Manenberg canal after skollies ambushed him while walking the other side.

A relative told the Daily Voice: “According to an eyewitness who was walking with their child, they said that Fancy Boys told them, ‘jy loop net vooruit of ons jou gaan skiet en jy sê niks’.

“They said that they saw the victim on the other side of the canal being approached by the Fancy Boys.

“The victim then stopped walking and asked one of the attackers, ‘wat gaan aan?’.

“That’s when more gangsters came from a tunnel and they held a gun right up against his chest. “That’s why when they shot him, no one heard the gunshot. Hulle het dwaars teen sy bors geskiet.”

Anyone with information on these incidents is kindly requested to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Manenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) Public Relations Officer Abdurahman Govind said that the shooting incident was gang related and that it is under investigation.
