A SOCIAL gathering in an Eerste River parkie turned deadly when unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of mense, leaving two dead and two others wounded, in what is believed to be a gang-related incident.

The incident occurred at 10.12pm at the park between Arago Close and Grosvenor Avenue, in High Places, Eerste River, claiming the life of a 21-year-old woman on the scene.

The wounded males, aged 20, 22, and 24, were rushed to hospital for medical attention, where the 22-year-old later died of his injuries.

A 34-year-old suspect has been arrested.

According to a Daily Voice source, all four victims were friends and two were cousins.

The insider said: “They were chilling as usual, when guys approached them to ask them something, and then they just started shooting. Two shots went off first, and then more shots.

“Unfortunately, the female victim couldn’t run any further, and they turned around to shoot her again in her head. They rushed the other three guys to hospital.

“One guy didn’t make it, and the other two guys are out of danger.

“The motive behind the shooting is that the suspects came to look for a guy that is selling drugs for someone, and this person they were looking for isn’t allowed to sell, and probably couldn’t find them and then they started shooting innocent kids.

“The suspects came back to shoot again while the cops were there, but they managed to catch one person.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident and said that Kleinvlei police registered two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder for further investigation.

Van Wyk reported: “According to reports, the victims were sitting in the park socialising, when unidentified males approached them and randomly started shooting at them.

“A 21-year-old female died on the scene. Three males aged 20, 22, and 24 were taken to different hospitals for medical treatment, where the 22-year-old male died due to injuries sustained.

“The suspects fled on foot. SAPS members who were in the vicinity heard the shots, reacted, chased the suspects, and apprehended a 34-year-old suspect.”

The suspect will appear in the Bluedowns Magistrates Court once charged.

He added: “The motive for this incident is believed to be gang-related. Investigations continue.”

Kleinvlei Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson David Poggenpoel said that they are deeply disturbed by the incident, and how the victims were killed in a horrible way.

Poggenpoel said: “We appeal to our community to assist SAPS in the investigation of this matter, in order to secure a conviction at court.”
