A woman and her friends, who call themselves Greater Purpose, are trying to save laaities on the Flats from falling into the trap of gangsterism and drugs.
Jane van Wyk and her pals are taking fun - rather than guns - to the streets by organising sports days for children all over the Cape Flats.
Jane also has a Facebook page, called Real Talk With Jane, where she discusses social ills facing communities.
The Greater Purpose also gives food parcels to the elderly and sanitary pads to school girls.
What a blessed day it started off...♡♡♡ We will not post pictures of any people we going to feed #itsforthechildren #OurKidsMatter

“We started the project during lockdown and assisted many communities so far. On Saturday we went out to assist the community of Roosendal in Delft by hosting a sports tournament for young kids, aged 12 to 15,” she says.
“Most of those kids have no parents and their circumstances are poor, surrounded by gang violence and drugs. We wish to make the streets a play zone again by initiating sports (activities).”
The group handed out food, goodie bags, sporting equipment and certificates to the kids.
“We don't just go out to feed, we go out to educate and equip each child with the skills and development they need to make them feel they are worth more than the odds handed to them.
“Our foundation is not an NPO, but we cry out to all communities to come forward and take part in our projects and initiative as we want to bring change.
“We are not asking for sponsors or donations. We do everything out of our own pockets; and that's the blessing – we want to pay it forward.
“Our next aim is to assist schools by volunteering to help kids read and write, after that we are planning to go and help old aged homes and shelters.
“We are starting on the Cape Flats and intend to spread our vision all over the country.”
