A 63-year-old oupa from Manenberg has been sent to the mang after he was busted for allegedly raping and impregnating his 14-year-old grandchild.
The man, who cannot be named, was arrested by police on Tuesday night after the girl’s family went to the police station to report the matter.
According to a source, the girl’s aunt had heard noises in the bedroom occupied by the girl and her oupa, and called the child’s mother.
“The girl initially denied it, but then the family [gave her] a pregnancy test and she told them what had been happening.”
It is suspected that the teen is eight weeks pregnant.
Manenberg SAPS’ Brigadier Sanele Zama confirms the oupa was arrested and says the case has shocked cops.
“I can confirm that he was arrested and charged with rape of a minor.
“The case is being investigated by the Nyanga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (Unit).
“It is a very shocking case and we condemn this act of sexual violence towards our children.
“Grandfathers are supposed to protect our girls.”
The National Prosecuting Authority’s Eric Ntabazalila says the oupa made his first appearance in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
“He is charged with the rape of his 14-year-old granddaughter.
“His case has been postponed until 18 May for bail application. He will appear at Court 4.”
The teen’s family declined to comment.
