Delft resident Fredie Blom, who is possibly the world’s oldest living man, turns 115 years old in just five days and his community needs your help to make his day extra special.
Birthday celebrations for Fredie are expected to take place on 16 May at Delft Civic Centre at 10am, where 115 elderly persons will be invited for a lekker breakfast.
Organisers say due to the national elections on 8 May, which is on Fredie’s birthday, they have decided to host his party on another day.
Fredie first made headlines in 2014 when he was introduced to the Daily Voice by community activist, Gadija Francis, on his 110th birthday.
Fredie was born in Adelaide in the Eastern Cape in 1904.
He moved to Cape Town and worked as a gardener and in later years married his wife, Jeanette Blom, who is 86 years old.
These days Fredie still smokes his twak and walks around unaided, and builds small hokkies.
Organisers say they need eggs, muffins, donuts, juices, coffee, tea, butter, milk and any refreshments for the birthday bash.
They say the Blom family also needs a new stove and fridge as they are using a two-plate stove and their fridge is broken.

Nora de Kock
Meanwhile, Nora de Kock of Kuils River will be celebrating her 109th birthday on 12 May.
Nora lives in Sarepta and her community is hoping to host a Mother’s Day lunch for her.
Donations for a Sunday meal for thirty elderly people will be appreciated, says Carol van Wyk.
