Despite community members identifying the possible rapists and killers of a 14-year-old girl of Heinz Park, police have yet to make an arrest.
A day after Janika Mallo was found raped and murdered in her backyard, residents have come forward saying the culprits live in the community.
Janika left her home about 8pm on Saturday to attend a fundraiser for the local soccer club in neighbouring Portland, Mitchells Plain.
Janika was raped and murdered in her ouma's backyard.
But her half-naked body was found in her ouma’s yard the next morning.
The teen had been raped and the left side of her face was bashed in with a concrete brick.
Janika lived with her mother, Janine Mallo, 31, while her dad Marlon Koopman, 38, is from Crossroads.
The motive behind murder of the Grade 7 pupil at Northwood Primary School is unknown.
Janine said on Monday her child worked hard at school and had many dreams.
“She wanted to be an air hostess one day. She spoke of it often and I told her to go for it,” the mother tells the Daily Voice.
Meanwhile, no arrests have been made yet, police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said on Monday afternoon.

“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Detectives are following all leads to solve this case.”
But aunt Alicia Koopman, 34, says they have informed cops about the possible culprits.
“They are gangsters and they live right here in this community and we told the police this. We don’t know why they would hurt the child like that.”
