SHOT DEAD: Lorenzo
A Lavender Hill family had a black Christmas after a man was gunned down in broad daylight.
Lorenzo le Roux, 29, was walking to his sister’s Steenberg home when he was shot on Military Road on 24 December around 3.30pm.
Brother Marvin says he died on Boxing Day.
“I wasn’t at the scene on the day of the incident, but I rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital where the doctors told us on Christmas Day that there’s nothing they could do and he passed on the following day,” he says.
“He was shot from behind.
“The first shot hit him in the spine, shattered it and the bullet instantly paralysed him and he had a big gash in the front of his head and he was then shot three more times in the neck.
“There is a video on Facebook of him trying to shout for help but the bullet came out through his mouth.”
He tells the Daily Voice that Lorenzo was not a gangster: “He was on drugs but was never a gangster, he was a mechanic.
“We are disappointed in the way Steenberg police have handled this case.
“We went to the station and it was like they had no idea about the murder.
“He was brutally gunned down like an animal in the street and the police didn't investigate until we asked about the case and we only got the case number on Monday.”
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed a case of murder was opened for investigation.
No arrests have been made yet.
Anyone with any information about the murder can contact Steenberg SAPS on 021 702 9000.
