The 10 finalists for Miss Drag South Africa 2019 have been announced and no less than FOUR Cape Town beauties will be representing the Mother City at the pageant in Gauteng in October.
Pageant director Enigma von Hamburg says they want to celebrate diversity.
“This platform is much more than just a beauty contest, it highlights the aim of ‘Drag with a Purpose’ to inspire ordinary people that carry out extraordinary things to advocate for the advancement of LGBTQIA+ rights, and drag culture, and serve as agents for change and uplift their communities by being positive role models.”

The very first Miss Drag SA was Mitchells Plain diva Zilin Ayoki in 2017, followed by Miss Vicky from Port Elizabeth last year.
The Cape Town finalists are Emogen Moore, Belinda Qaqamba Ka-Fassie, Laylah Zukofa Khan and Chante Herries. The other finalists are Zoe Cox, Anastasia K Boney, Vuyokazi Mbutho, Cuttie Seoka, Kem Blank and Demi Rene. They hail from Port Elizabeth, North West, Northern Cape and the Free State.
Emogen Moore, 30, from Mitchells Plain, says she wants to create awareness around her #BeWhoYouAre campaign for fuller figured girls.
“I want ladies to be happy and healthy with the bodies they have and not adapt to society’s expectations,” she says.
Should she win the pageant, Chante Herries, 35, from Parkwood, says she would start implementing social programmes in her community to rehabilitate the youth.
Miss Drag SA takes place at the Pretoria State Theatre on 4 October.
Tickets will be available on WebTickets from 1 June at R180 each.
