Ten golden oldies, who have not received visitors at their old age home for years, were treated to a lekker pre-Christmas party this week.
The lunch was held on Wednesday at a private residence in Kuils River, and was organised by the Mizpah non-governmental organisation.
The party was the brainchild of the children of a couple staying at the Kraaifontein Old Age Home, who last month celebrated 69 years of wedded bliss.
Benjamin and Dora Freeman say their children, who run the Mizpah organisation, gave them a sweet surprise when they took the oldies out on an unexpected outing.

“We were surprised when our children came to get us and 10 other residents at the home,” says Benjamin, 91.
“These residents have not had any visitors for years, so it was a blessing for them, and we all had a nice time mixing and chatting.
“My wife and I celebrated our 69th wedding anniversary on 25 November.”
Benjamin says they are still “lovebirds” who hold hands and kiss.
“Since the day we got married up till now, the fire of our love is still burning brightly.
“We promised and pledged our love and fidelity on 25 November 1950, and we still feel the same,” he says.
The couple share nine kids and remember how everyone sukkeled during the apartheid years.

Dora, 93, says: “I had to start working at the age of 13, and want to tell the youngsters of today, don’t be lazy and don’t be afraid of hard work, because that is what got us through those difficult years.
“Hard work has never killed anyone.”
Mizpah member Lezette Louw says it was an honour to treat the seniors at her home.

“We decided to give an outing to those residents who do not get visitors anymore,” she says.
“This is the time of year when everyone wants to be out and about, you want to be with your family on Christmas day.
“Our organisation helps anyone in need.
“Our guests on Wednesday could relax and have a meal around the swimming pool, and we played music from the good old days which we knew they would enjoy and bring back good memories.”
