On Sunday, the City of Cape Town will formally welcome the festive season with the annual switching on of the Krismis liggies and the stage is set for a line-up of kwaai entertainment.
This week, the City announced the winner of its annual Music Challenge, where they look for an up-and-coming artist to join established stars on stage.
Joshua Bukasa, aka Crazy-J- Suave, 24, was voted tops by the public and won the competition, along with a R10 000 cash prize and the opportunity to perform at the event on Sunday, alongside SA Hip Hop Artist of the Year YoungstaCPT and the Ndlovu Youth Choir who stole hearts as they rukked on America’s Got Talent.
Other artists on the bill include comedian Wayne McKay, Theo Watts and the Gemini Band, DJ Portia, Chad Chitter aka DJ Skouers, The Unknown Dance Crew and the Zip Zap Circus, as well as Sho Madjozi, who made world headlines with her hit song John Cena.
Crazy-J was born in Madagascar, grew up in Lavender Hill and moved to Milnerton six years ago where he still lives.
The rapper says: “I’m super excited and overwhelmed because I remember as a kid while staying in Lavender Hill, we’d come to the Festive Lights Switch On and see what’s on display and I remember saying ‘one day that’s going to be me on that stage’ and now it’s finally happening.”
Crazy-J-Suave beat 182 other competitors to claim top honours with his vibey song, titled Aquafina.
The lekker liedjie got an outstanding 5180 votes.
