Parents at a primary school in Mfuleni are angered after the school’s toilets have been blocked for two weeks with no assistance from the City of Cape Town.
Pupils at the Mfuleni
Primary School in Ingxangxosi Crescent were horrified when “rivers” of poo water ran out the school property, flooding the homes of neighbours.
One woman said she was forced to move out of her home.
SCHOOL: Parents fear kids will get sick
Several calls have been logged by staff members and resident Snzame
Masimini, 60, but no help has been forthcoming.
Parents at the school are now keeping their children home, afraid that they will get sick from the faeces flooding the school.
Dineo Xolo, 38, says she is mad as hell that her elderly neighbour is being treated like crap.
“We are very
disappointed. This family has had to move out and live outside their home.
“It was very traumatic and we as a community feel the City is throwing us away. This is unacceptable.”
An administrator at
Mfuleni Primary School referred all queries to the Western Cape Education Department.
WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said they were not aware of the problem but would immediately launch an investigation for action to be taken.
The Daily Voice also asked the City of Cape Town for comment, and a spokesperson said they “would be looking into it”.
