The family of a missing man says they know he has passed away and now just want to find his body.
Sibabalo Ntsilana, 24, was reportedly dumped in a dam in Mfuleni.
His sister says the day she went to report him missing, one of the suspects was at the police station to confess but the man was not arrested.
Zimkitha Ntsilana, 27, says: “I was at the police station on 12 September when I saw one of the suspects who said he was trying to save my brother from his friend, when he pushed him into the water.
“The following day I heard the second guy also went to the police and told a similar story but he was the one trying to save Sibabalo.”
Sibabalo allegedly had a fight with the two men at a shebeen.
His neighbour Mlungisi Yawa says: “He was apparently angry, he went home to fetch a hammer, and when he tried to hit one of them, he missed and they grabbed the hammer from him and hit him with it.
“Then they took him to the dam and then threw him in there while he was still alive.”
Now, Zimkitha and Buyiswa Street residents are searching for his body.
Neighbour Mzimasi Maki says: “We cannot search on our own, the police divers were here and they tried to search they found nothing.
“We expected them to get into the water but they said the water is contaminated and the sniffer dogs couldn’t help. We feel helpless, we have no equipment.”
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana says an investigation is under way.
“The station commander is in contact with the family and updating them on the search.”
