Two young girls have opened cases with the police after a gangster beat them with a stick until it broke.
The girls, aged 16 and 18, whose parents asked that they not be identified, received medical attention at Groote Schuur Hospital this week.
The friends were enjoying a game of dominoes when they were confronted by three alleged members of the Ghetto’s Gang in Moray Court, Hanover Park on Wednesday.
“One of them had a stick in his hand and they came past us and made a remark which I didn’t hear,” explains the 18-year-old, who is in matric.
“The one replied, ‘ kyk wat sê die kind van jou’. I said I didn’t say anything.
“He then said he would take all our stuff and rob us like he did before.
“My friend said he didn’t rob me, but pickpocketed (my cellphone) before.
“He began beating my friend on the head and then he started hitting me with the stick until it broke.”

The teen’s angry mother, 45, says her daughter was robbed of her cellphone by the same gangster three months ago.
“My husband confronted him three months ago and though we didn’t get the phone back, the issue was sorted out,” explains the mother.
“But to beat two girls in broad daylight is not right.”
The one teen’s dad adds: “To attack women like that in public and boast about it, most of the community is fed up with these guys.”
The teens were rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital where doctors said the 18-year-old was lucky to escape a fractured skull.
“She has been vomiting and has a bruise on her arm and we are worried because she still has to write her exams,” adds her mother.
The younger girl has been left with bruises on the side of her head, but is otherwise fine.
Meanwhile, the family was left furious on Thursday when the girls opened a case and a cop took them to the Ghettos to identify their attackers.
“This cop took me in an unmarked car and drove around in the Ghetto territory and was saying to them that I opened a case against them,” says the scared teen.

The mother says she will sue police if anything happens to her daughter now.
“This police officer, Basson, endangered my daughter and my family by taking her into the gang headquarters.
“I will hold him and the whole police force and (Police Minister) Bheki Cele accountable if anything happens to my family.”
The 16-year-old’s mother, 32, says they will be handing in their doctor’s report as evidence as well.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed: “An assault case has been opened for investigation following an incident where a minor girl was assaulted.
“She received medical attention. The suspects are to be arrested.”
