A dance duo from Mitchells Plain has successfully defended their title as the national hip hop champs over the weekend.
Ignatius Pastor, 32, and 18-year-old Cameron Erasmus are known as CI Ethos and took part in the Hip Hop Unite National competition at the Bellville Velodrome where they again bagged gold, and now they’re headed for the Netherlands.
The duo won the South African Sport Aerobics and Fitness Federation (SASAFF) National Championship in 2018 and took first place at the Western Province Sport Aerobics and Fitness Federation Regional Championship which was held in May.
They now have the opportunity to represent South Africa at the World Hip Hop Unite Championships in Netherlands from 17 to 21 October.
“Winning again was amazing and there was so much pressure. There were five other duos in our category from places like Mossel Bay, Tafelsig and Kraaifontein. At the end of the competition, all the training was worth it,” Ignatius says.
The duo will be part of over 40 countries participating in the global competition.
“We are extremely excited about the trip and will be working hard towards our training, but like always funding is a
problem. This will be our second international competition as a duo,” he says.
Ignatius says they will be starting with fundraising efforts to cover the R22 500 each needs.
“I am excited to start with the fundraising. It means we will work hard to reach our goals and working for our dreams.
“One cannot expect things to just be given unto us,” he adds.
