A Grade 6 teacher was shot dead as he arrived at Heinz Park Primary School this morning, allegedly by a learner who he had a dispute with.
Thulani Manqoyi, a mathematics onnie at the school was still inside his car when he was shot reportedly by two suspects.
A witness tells the Daily Voice: "It was around 8:10am this morning, the children were still going into the school.
"I heard two gunshots, and then things went haywire, the children were running around in the school yard.
"On my way to check what the chaos was about, I saw two people whom I later heard were the shooters."
The woman says that one of the suspects was wearing grey school pants.
"They ran away from the scene. I don't want to speculate that one of the shooters is a learner."
Cape Coloured Congress founder Fadiel Adams says he was driving past Heinz Park when he received a call informing him of the shooting.
"This was a good teacher who was here to educate our children. We call on the government to take action against such acts."
Police spokesman Colonel Andrè Traut says the circumstances surrounding the death of the 52-year-old teacher are being investigated.
"This is after he was shot and killed in the parking area of Heinz Park Primary school while sitting in his vehicle this morning at around 07:45.
"Two unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
"Any person with information regarding the murder is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111."
