The principal of Wesbank Senior Secondary School has been arrested after he allegedly molested a 14-year-old pupil in his office.
The Western Cape Education Department has confirmed that the principal, Douglas Jacobs, was arrested on Valentine’s Day and made his first appearance in court on 15 February.
Jacobs was released on bail and warned to be back at court on 4 April.
It’s alleged that Jacobs had called the meisie to his office last week where he apparently fondled her breasts behind closed doors.
Jessica Shelver, the spokesperson for Education MEC, Debbie Schäfer, says an internal investigation has also been launched and that Jacobs had been booked off sick until March.
She says the palie faces charges of sexual impropriety.
“The principal of Wesbank Senior Secondary School was reportedly arrested on 14 February 2019 on the charges of sexual impropriety. He is accused of touching a girl learner inappropriately.
“The bail conditions are that the accused is not allowed to have or to make contact with the complainant.
“The principal has reportedly been booked off for medical reasons until 15 March.
“The social worker will complete the relevant submissions and the WCED Labour Relations will investigate as a priority.
“The alleged victim is no longer at the school as the mother reportedly requested a transfer certificate before reporting the alleged incident.
“Counselling and support will be provided.”
