A father of three has died after he fell off a truck and his head was crushed by the vehicle’s massive wheels.

Charles Marnevil, 43, from Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain, was on his way home from his carpentry job when tragedy struck just after 6.30pm on Friday, on the corner of Spine and Merrydale road.

His devastated sister, Janice Craig, 37, says police came to the house to notify the family about the accident.

“Police came and told us about the accident. We didn’t know he was dead until we got to the scene,” she says.

“Apparently they were sitting on the edge of the truck as there was material on the back. When the traffic light changed, he fell off and shouted for help. The truck driver reversed and drove over him,” Janice explains.

She says Charles was a soft-spoken man with a big heart and had freshly picked flowers with him when he died.

“He came to visit us last weekend. We had such a great time. Nobody can believe he is truly gone, but God gave him his time,” she says softly.
