A senior photojournalist has been suspended by Cape Town-based African News Agency (ANA) after he was publicly accused of abusing his wife.
Last week, the woman posted images on Facebook of her bruised face, and a video of the photographer swinging a mop in the direction of his wife, who was holding their toddler in her arms at the time.
The couple may not be identified until he has been arrested and appears in court.
ANA chief content officer Lance Witten said in a statement yesterday that the journo has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.
He added: "We are totally against any form of abuse and have championed anti-gender-based violence initiatives for several years, especially through our 'Don't Look Away' campaign.
"We cannot comment further on the matter which is private, albeit in the public domain."
