NATIONAL Coloured Congress (NCC) party leader Fadiel Adams and Cape Town mayor Geordin-Hill Lewis have traded barbs in a hewige bekgeveg.

Adams went live on Facebook on Wednesday night after images of him and other members posing with a firearm were highlighted at a City Council of Chambers meeting earlier in the day.

Hill-Lewis brought out receipts of the party allegedly “glorifying gang violence” by posting pictures of them holding guns during a council of chambers meeting.

Hill-Lewis then accused the party of “intimidating and extorting businesses” and stated that posing for photos with gewere is what gangs do.

He added: “That, by the way, that is Fadiel Adams and councillor Nasmie Jacobs right there in that picture, they’re the ones parading around with what looks like a 9mm.

“Our brave law enforcement officers who the NCC by the way often mock. They work around the clock to remove those from the streets and make arrests.

“Protecting Cape Town’s under siege communities from gangsters is our mission. But when people like Adams and NCC members of this council proudly flaunt their gangster credentials on social media and conduct themselves no better than other gangsters, they are sending us back to this mission.”

However, Adams took to Facebook in a livestream saying: “This is going to be a type of live that will either land me in court or have me ducking. It’s actually an assault rifle.

“I didn’t hide that picture. I posted it because sometimes we practice with it.

“Because some of us are getting ready for the war that you people are asking for.

“If wars are what it takes to liberate our people then that’s what we’ll do but we are not there just yet.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie told the Daily Voice that they were not able to determine the authenticity of a firearm “merely based on a photo as the firearm must be accessible for examination”.

Adams then went on to say that Hill-Lewis uses black and coloured mense as scapegoats in municipal scandals

He added: “Half of your mayoral committee will be facing charges for extortion, it’s already begun.

“The minute there is a rumour of k@k in your department you are soon to be gone. If you are coloured or black you are gone.”

Meanwhile, the NCC also tabled a motion of no confidence during the meeting to remove Hill-Lewis after accusing him of lacking accountability and transparency, spreading false statements about Adams and lying about the meeting with the provincial police commissioner to discuss alleged corruption in the municipality.

However, the meeting heard that Hill-Lewis rejected the motion with contempt.
